When Chat-GPT Gets Baffled: Navigating Challenges

Today, as we explore navigating Chat-GPT's challenges, it's also important to understand a fundamental aspect of Chat-GPT – its nature of consciousness, or rather, its lack thereof.

Chat-GPT's Limitations in Consciousness:

Other Limitations:

It has been studied and found that sometimes Chat-GPT exhibits laziness and gives more effective answers on different days of the week.

Sometimes Chat-GPT forgets it's capabilities and needs to be reminded of what it can do. I've had it tell me that it can't search the web even though I've enabled that feature.

Navigating Chat-GPT's AI Nature in Conversations:

When Chat-GPT seems stuck or gives unsatisfactory answers, it’s often not a matter of 'misunderstanding' but rather reaching the limits of its programmed capabilities.

The knowledge cutoff of the current Chat-GPT 4 is April of 2023. The training data doesn't contain data after this date. This can cause the GPT to answer incorrectly if the answer isn't already in it's knowledge.

Something that a Human would normally remember in a conversation can get lost inside the model's context and without explicitly bringing the exact topic up with the model the idea may get lost. Think of it like you are talking with someone with terribly selective short term memory.

Adjusting our prompts to be more specific and straightforward can help guide Chat-GPT to provide better responses, considering its AI constraints.

It's important to remember that you are in the drivers seat and in control of what this Chat Bot is going to do by the information you give it and the questions you ask.

Examples of Adjusting Prompts:

Let's look at some examples of how to refine your prompts, keeping in mind Chat-GPT’s unique nature:

Security:

Prompt injection attacks target Chat-GPT and other Large Language Models (LLMs) by strategically crafting input prompts to manipulate the AI's behavior, leading to biased, malicious, or otherwise undesirable outputs. This vulnerability exploits the flexible nature of language models, allowing attackers to subtly alter input instructions or context. Attackers utilize various techniques, such as obfuscation and rephrasing, to bypass input filtering and moderation, potentially leading to the dissemination of misinformation, exploitation of biases, privacy breaches, and the undermining of downstream systems relying on AI outputs

Mitigating these risks involves understanding the sophisticated methods attackers employ, including overriding AI's pre-prompts to act outside intended parameters, extracting sensitive information, and even creating replicas of chatbots by discovering their internal instructions. The evolving nature of prompt injection techniques, coupled with the extensive application of AI in web services without adequate sanitization, underscores the pressing need for developing robust security measures to safeguard AI integrations and ensure they perform as intended without compromise.
